Mini Quilts in Progress

Well I've been busy working on several mini quilts and have a few quilt tops done!

I still haven't decided on the right brown for the suitcase block, I may end up just using the solid brown so that I can then focus on finishing the whole top.

Here are some pics of the new ones I've completed.

This cute log cabin is not quilted yet, the top measures 10-1/2" x 13". The logs are 1/2" wide, the blocks measure 2-1/2". I had some trouble with the little 1/4" red border, so I think I will take it off and make it wider. I'm not sure if I will machine quilt it or hand quilt, or maybe even tie it. The quilt looks a little off in the photo but it was hanging on my design wall.

I have bins of strips that are in 1", 1-1/2" and 2" so it didn't take me very long to grab random pieces and make the quilt. 1" red square for the center of each block, and then building out with light and dark logs.

I also started sewing up some courthouse steps blocks, using the leftover 1" pieces. More to come on that one later. :)

This second quilt top is a Bricks doll quilt pattern, made from a pattern I found on modabakeshop.com. The pattern calls for a charm pack but I (again) just used my scraps that were on hand.

The bricks are 2" x 4". The light background is a shirting print I bought a couple of years ago at a Joann's store in their clearance fabric for probably a dollar a yard. I think it will look great once it's quilted up.

The pattern is at the following link:

Next on my list is to make a quilt out of small Lady of the Lake blocks - 4" blocks, and based on an antique quilt I saw browsing online.

Kind of on the same antique-y theme, I found a small hexagon quilt I had started working on about 5 or 6 years ago, and got to the stage where I needed to applique it to a foundation to make a little quilt. I guess I got to the stage where I didn't want to do that part. I had completely forgotten that I had it, but a nice surprise to find it and finally complete it.

So, this will also be a quilt for my suitcase, since I am going to include any UFOs in it as well.  The little hexagons are about 1-1/4" wide, and still have the paper foundations and basting stitches in them.
I've also sewn together some small pinwheel blocks, and a strippy kaleidoscope block (Rocky Road to Kansas block) that I may decide to use as a center block for a medallion quilt. It's 6" so is the biggest block I've made during this journey.

I've also joined a great Yahoo Group recently, the Small Quilt Talk group shares tips for making little quilts, and also has fabulous photos from the group members on all the quilts they've made. Very inspiring. Kathy Tracy, the moderator of the group, has published several quilt books on small quilts. Check it out if you're interested.
Happy sewing!

Lovely little quilts! How will you finish the hexies?

Thanks Diane,
I've seen some antiques that were appliqued onto a background fabric, but honestly I'm not sure if I would like that. I may recopy the hexagon pattern from one of the hexes, and add muslin hexes around the edges. Have you ever made one and if so, how did you finish it? :)
