I've been thinking about making some new baby quilts this week, and just received a great shipment of fun frog fabrics. Aha! (Try saying that 5 times fast!) I have 2 friends to make quilts for this year. One (who is really my boss) is due to have a baby girl in April, and my other friend is due in September.I made a very cute 3D baby quilt last year for my neice's baby, and it turned out great! If you're looking to try a new techinique, I put together this free pattern and you can give it a try. Please note that this is not a technique I created, I'm not sure who came up with the 3-D technique but it is fun.
Be sure that you read the instructions carefully before you start. I had trouble at first with the technique, but after my first block, the rest sewed up very quickly, and I was done the quilt top in about 2 hours! Talk about a fast project.
You can use any focus fabric you like, or think about using 1930 repro prints. I tend to have a lot of novelty and baby fabrics around.
I will also post a link to this pattern on the right side of my blog. For now, here it is:
3-D Pinwheel Baby Quilt
Enjoy making this, and if you do, send me a comment on how you liked the pattern!
Happy sewing!
